Amy Longman collected picture postcards, postcards were the means to communicate in 1900, before the arrival of the telephone to Ditcheat in 1926.
Her collection of postcards provides an insight into the social history of the village. Many of the pictures are attributed to Frank Higdon, he had a studio at 64a High Street, Street, There are also pictures attributed to Hillard.
Through this website I share the contents Amy's collection of village scenes and also those that families commissioned picture postcards of their homes, not all of the cards have been used, but I have included the messages where available.
Amy lived with her family at Langford Farm, Alhampton. In 1907 she married Edmund Harold Norman and moved to Kilkenny Farm. They moved to the Norman family farm at Cannard's Grave, Shepton Mallet in 1918.
